St. Patrick’s Week…

…doesn’t really exist, I just didn’t want to title this post “St. Patrick’s Day” when it is 4 days away.

I have never cared about or celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. What a harsh holiday that if you don’t wear green, people can pinch you. This year, however, I am extremely excited. My Dad has been a longtime admirer of St. Patrick and in the last year especially, I have come to appreciate some of his writing and the pioneer he was for Christianity on the Emerald Isle. Now that I actually live in Ireland, I am going to Dublin on Saturday for the annual parade. Other than a greenish scarf, I also realized that I have no green clothing items here, so I might buy something. If Americans pinch you for not wearing green on the holiday, I don’t want to know what a (possibly drunk) Irish person would do.

In other news, I read this passage last night and keep rereading it. Hopefully it encourages you:

And Samuel said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid; you have done all this evil. Yet do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty. For the Lord will not forsake his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself….Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you. – 1 Samuel 12:20-22, 24

Are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day?

I enjoyed your post and dearly wish I could be in Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day. Be sure and take alot of pictures! Although so much about Patrick is forever shrouded in mystery and he was virtually silent about the details of his ministry, the spirit of the man who was so evidently committed to the Great Commandment and Great Commission is worthy of imitation and honor.
