Psalm 51:16-17

David wrote this psalm after he committed adultery with Bathsheba, killed her husband, and the prophet Nathan called him out on it. Lately, this Psalm has been the only thing capable of putting words to my emotions, and they aren’t even my own words! The Psalms are cool like that because they are so relatable:

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;

you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;

a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
