Reverse Culture Shock

Reverse culture shock is rough! I’ve been back in the US for 3.5 weeks now, and there’s still some days where I feel completely overwhelmed. It’s hard when you’re forced to jump headfirst into a new life (in Texas), when you probably should spend much more time processing your old one (in Ireland). Processing your old life will help you settle into your new life, but you can’t process your old life because suddenly you are too busy with your new life.

This (below) was one of my favorite songs to sing in church before I left for Ireland, and it says that the only thing that every remains is God’s love. This past Sunday, we sang it again. I was amazed that even though life brought me to Ireland and back this past year, there I was again, back at church, and God was still loving me with the same love. Now when I feel overwhelmed, I am trying to remember that.

Your love never fails it never gives up it never runs out on me

On and on and on and on it goes

It overwhelms and satisfies my soul

And I never ever have to be afraid

One thing remains
