Life has been a little bit up and down lately. However, now when something goes wrong, my first thought isn’t “get me back to Texas!” It’s something like, “Yes, living in Mexico sucks sometimes and I still feel lonely and bad things are going to happen, but how can I figure out how to make the situation better by actually staying in the situation?”
I no longer see running away as an option. I’m getting married here and, consequently gaining a new family and new support system. I have a steady job that, amazingly, allows me to use my obscure college degree. I have friends and even just acquaintances that I know I can absolutely trust. I have a God who understands every frustration, joy, and confusion that has ever housed itself in my heart as a result of living in Mexico.
In short, I have a life here, and I’m very thankful.
